Helping a mechanic dad work on cars when only old enough to race bicycles my view was performance early in life.
Late 1950s
Drag racing was as much street racing as on local drag strips at old airports and some abandon roads. Modified 1930s and 1940s coupes/roadsters were the norm with wide assortment of engines (rat rods as we call them today). Late model Chevrolet, Ford, Oldsmobile and Pontiac mostly ruled. Chrysler cars were really not in the game yet except for the first generation 1950s He…

An open letter to the Drag Racing and Performance Industries
The following is a statement from Joe Hrudka, co-founder of the Mr. Gasket Company.
Most of you who know me or know about me think of me as the founder of several successful companies, but I would like to remind you that I got my start as a drag racer which is one of the main reasons I have followed the developments regarding the efforts of PROJECT 1320 to document the history of the sport of drag racing and the perform…

My wife and I made the trip up to Rockingham today, knowing in our hearts that the rain would cease and we would see racing at The Rock. What we didn't know was how little. Thank God we had a guardian angel. A nice couple, Allen and his lovely wife Mary saw Donna and I walking through the parking lot when she asked if we had tickets. We said no, we had not bought them yet and since we looked like the down to earth folks they like that had two passes left of the four the won in a contest. This wh…

There is a website that I would like to contribute to called Motorsport Memorial, dedicated to those who have paid the ultimate price. There was a Willys gasser than ran at Thompson somewhere in the 80s called "Rapid Transit". I attended an event where something broke on the car in the lights and the resultant crash ultimatly proved fatal.
I am seeking anyone with details, date, driver name and age, etc. so I can contribute another fine racer's name to the above mentioned site.
Please remember,…

Slide show ~ Delivery day of Bill's (owner) 1968 Valiant. After a 10 month build, RJ Fabrication had only 6 days for final assembly after getting car back from paint to make the October 3rd deadline. It took Rob Lindsay and his crew over 300 man-hours to complete final assembly. The car’s craftsmanship is magazine worthy and worked flawlessly with all la…

"If they ever tell our story let them say that we walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say we lived in the time of no rules, passion in our hearts and speed on our minds. Let them say we lived in the time of the quartermile".

Hello friends and future friends.
Well, I just put the finishing touches on my January 2010 issue of DRAG RACER Magazine and it was a push. Almost eight weeks ago, I tried to "get ahead" on this one (LOL), but every time I turned around, I was waiting for photos, information, or all of the above. Unfortunately, that pushed things right up to the deadline.
Anyway, I'm fortunate to be able to tell the world about the new Edelbrock/Musi "Big Victor" cylinder heads. The end result is a total re-des…

PROJECT 1320 was designed to be more than just a film to document the sports roots and pat ourselves on the back, it is an important step in bridging the gap between us – automotive and drag racing enthusiasts – and those people not involved in our world.
This project, among other points, is a display of American ingenuity and perseverance and is a process of capturing our historical treasures before we lose them. More importantly, this project is part of an effort to save our industry from tho…

The drag strip at Maui Raceway Park was vandalized this past weekend. I can't imagine why someone would do such a thing. He (or they) should be shot!
