That joking comment was one of such items. We got about same amount of runs out of cranks. Blocks would start cracking in main bearing area on both sides of oil hole and run up towards bottom of cylinders. We could see fine lines on back of top main bearing half, as well as visible crack in block webbing and when we saw a change in color between fine lines on back of bearing we knew the block webbing was starting to move between two cracked areas. We knew it was time to change block, of course that only worked if every thing else stayed in one piece that long. We did lift blower couple of times, but that was my fault jumping in and out of throttle when out of shape.

My Racing History

I won the first class Trophy at Aquasco Speedway in Md. in 1957 on opening day. Later co owned the Burgess and Reitz A/f coupe and drove to class wins and records at Cordoba Ill. and Chester SC. 1958 -9. The most feared flat head in the east. Then we built the Reitz ,Chastang, Gregory, and Sneden T/F dragster. This was a home built chassis with Desoto power 370 cu in 6 carb on 90% nitro.
