You mean other than the fact that "the tree" is just a pole with colored lights?

Does anyone have any recollections of Willy Zaiser? Willy ran altereds (and at least one C/D) out of Catonsville, Md. from the late '50s until ??? Is he still alive? Any help with my poor memory is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Bruce, great that the local race community could energize and rally the troops. Always been that way. If everyone got along like racers it would be Nirvanna! Mahalo.

Thanks for your thoughts on this, Ron. Although the perpetrator has yet to be made known, it was just one person who did the damage. He apparently ripped off a tractor that was being used on a project at the local humane society facility (almost two…

Man Bruce! Guess there's just no way of getting away from it. My guess is that maybe you moved from this area thinkin' you wouldn't have to deal with crap like that.

Guth had my first dragster for a few years. He had also purchased Roland's '69 "Hawaiian" Charger, and was planning to restore both cars. Well, he finished the Charger (he did a superb job), and took it to the Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield. Then he…

What can you tell me about this car, Bill? I'm acquainted with Guth, and I'm wondering if this is a "new car"?

How long have you been a race fan?
Starting in 1957 (although I'd been into 'hot rodding' for at least two years by then). I went to my very first race (while visiting with my father for the summer), the grand opener at "Houston Dragraceway, " in June of that year. With that experience, I was definitely hooked for life!
Tell us about yourself.
I'm an only child, in my late 60's (sun in Aquarius, moon in Cancer, Aquarius rising).

I've lived in Miami, Florida (where I was born), Washington, DC (and the nearby Maryland & Virginia suburbs), Bangor (Maine), Lynn & Marblehead (Mass.), San Francisco (for eleven years) and, for the past 26 years, in Maui.

I love my wife of 25+ years, Kolleen, and our 4 cats; PuddiKat, Princess Ipo, King Emerson Hokulani-Wheeler (aka "Emerson Kittipaldi") and Kealani..

I was a finish line judge at Aquasco Speedway in late 1958, and later their head starter (with flags). I was also the "stock side" starter at York U. S. 30 in 1960 (they ran four lanes, stockers on the right side of the track, 'hot cars' on the left). Grumpy Jenkins, Dave Strickler and Hal Ramsey continually battled it out for Stock Eliminator honors that season.

I announced the races at Sanford, Maine, from 1962 thru '65, and I was a contributor to Drag News and Eastern Drag News/Drag Times. The Southern New England Timing Association honored me with a "Pioneer of the Sport" award in June, 2000.

I'm probably best known for being a pro Top Fuel car/team owner, a "fun" endeavor that consumed a sizable chunk of a rather hefty inheritance between late 1966 and mid-1969.

After I quit racing I published an underground newspaper, and worked in the music business (for eleven years, with Arista Records for the better part of six of them). I've managed auto parts stores (2), record stores (3), a large book store/café and an expensive logo-wear clothing store (for a 5-star Maui resort hotel).

My real passions are fast cars (esp. nitro-fueled nostalgia dragsters and "traditional" hot rods) and photography, but I also enjoy listening to "honest" music of almost any kind (preferably live) plus I love travel, good wines ("robust" reds) and "ethnic" foods (esp. Mexican, Italian, Basque, Thai & Sushi) and, perhaps, the best part of all - living here in Maui!

Are you a fan of other types of racing?
NASCAR, IRL & F1, but not nearly as much as drag racing!

Hey Dealer,

Good to hear you are alive and well on my favorite island. I enjoyed reading your bio. I can still see Al in his oversize Ed Pink jacket bounce stepping into JAck Redd's Drag Time office over the bumper shop in VA. Do you remember a west coast guy named Bob Webb? I ran into him after the Standard 1320 gathering in Fallon, NV, a few years back and he said he knew you, from back in the day. Stay well.

Seems to me when I was on there it was 1/8 but that was some time ago. I ran it 1970 thru 1975.

Wheeler Dealer is heard from again. Good to talk with you a little, even in a limited venue here. Thought I would throw in a music industry term for you, just to make you feel comfortable. Hope you and Koleen are well, and say hi to McClurg for me.
Not quite sure what I am going to do with all these Social Group things, to be honest, but will have to stay with folks, I guess.
Take care,
Tom

What about the "British Walkers", or the "Hangmen"? Oh, this supposed to be about drag racing, I think.
What about that silver '64 GTO that took us to NY Nat'l Speedway for the 2nd Super Stock Nat'ls. Remember that underground night club out on Long Island? Hey, Bruce, we'll have to talk later. I gotta go for now. JT

JA Bruce, Darn, I just checked and didn't see where I welcomed you to the group! So WELCOME! When is your book coming out? Folks, this guys' life would fill a dozen books. Didn't you book singer John Denver when he first started out in Wash., D.C? How about the night we were pulled over in Alex., Va. by a cop and what I tolded him! Oops, we better not, huh! All kidding aside looking for more tales from your past.
